Therapy Pricing and Insurance
Therapy Pricing
At Pathways Counseling KC, we offer a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation with all prospective clients. Once you determine we are a good fit for you, we will begin your treatment sessions. Prices range from $140 to $170 per 50-minute session, due at the close of each session. Cash, credit cards, and HSA debit cards are accepted.
Insurance Information
Pathways Counseling KC does not bill any insurances directly. We are considered an out-of-network provider. Some insurance companies will reimburse a portion of the sessions if the plan allows – it just depends on your out-of-network coverage. We are able to provide you with superbills for you to submit to your insurance for reimbursement requests. We encourage you to call your provider to determine your coverage benefit.
Why Don't We Bill Insurance Directly?
We want you to have a say in your healing process.
Insurance coverage can sometimes limit the number of sessions and dictate the type of treatment you can receive. However, we strongly believe that the decision on what is best for your health should be jointly made by you and your therapist. This way, you can ensure that the treatment aligns with your goals and caters to your specific needs.
For insurance to cover your treatment, a formal diagnosis is required.
This means you must meet clinical criteria for a diagnosis to be added to your permanent medical record by way of the superbill provided to you for insurance reimbursement. This could affect future ratings on life or health insurance premiums, as well as have an impact on education or career options. Not everyone who seeks therapy needs a mental health diagnosis.
We want to prevent therapist burnout and compassion fatigue.
Insurance pay rates require therapists to have an exaggerated and often unmanageable caseload that often leads to burn-out and reduced quality of care. We believe you and our therapists deserve a healthy work/life balance.
Insurance companies can dictate our work together.
This includes how often we are able to meet, how long we are able to work together, and what type of therapy you are able to receive. Your well-being is our top priority and working directly with insurance companies impedes our ability to prioritize your needs.
Ready to Get Started?
If so, we can start with the initial phone consultation – with no charge and no obligation – where we’ll discuss your needs. Some clients opt for a combination of online and in-office sessions; many prefer in-person as their sole method for therapy. You and your therapist will create a plan that works best for you!
